Hill Area Development Programme(HADP) and UPASI Krishi Vigyan Kendra
Introduction
Hill Area Development Programme is a centrally sponsored programme of Union Planning Commission. HADP has identified UPASI-KVK as one of the nodal Agencies to implement the watershed programme. Ten macro watersheds have been identified as high priority watersheds in Nilgiri District. UPASI-KVK has taken up Thuneri macro watershed (58/75) which consists of three micrwatersheds namely Thummanatty, Kenthorai and Kothumudi. This programme will be implemented with the assistance of the line departments and the NGOs for four years.
Activities carried out in Thummanatty, Kenthorai and Kothumudi microwatersheds.
i. Entry Point Activities
- 1. Extension of play ground under Entry Point Activities was carried out at Thummanatty village.
- 2. Construction of Revetment at Kenthorai, Maduraiveeran colony and Kappachi villages were completed.
- 3. New footpath from Kothumudi & Agalar was completed
- 4. Installation of pipelines was completed at Morattulla Village
ii. Supply of Horticultural Inputs
- Sprinkler, Oil Engines and vegetable seeds, Hand sprayer and Agricultural Implements
- were supplied to the farmers of three microwatersheds.
iii. Self Help Groups
Three Self Help Groups have been formed in Baralatty, Moratalla and Kenthorai villages
iv. Meetings
Conducted meeting at UPASI-KVK for Community Organiser, Secretaries and Volunteers of three microwatersheds
Twelve meetings for the Watershed Development Team (WDT) were conducted in three microwatersheds
v. Watershed Membership
- The watershed membership was strengthened and the details are given below:
- Thummanatty - 685
- Kenthorai - 425
- Kothumudi - 330
vi. Veterinary Camp
Eleven farmers from Beragal village of Kothumudi microwatershed were taken to Veterinary Farm and Sheep Breeding Institution to see the activities of the farm.
vii. Quality Tea Leaf Procurement Centre
Quality leaf procurement centres were established at Kenthorai , Kothumudi, Thummanatty, Kappachi and Kambatty villages through Self Help Groups.
viii. Establishment of Cut Flower Unit
Two growers established two Cutflower units at Kunthachappai and Thummatty villages, under watershed programme. Carnation is grown in the Unit
